Black & White Frill Cake

This is my first attempt at Maggie Austin frills. It was harder than I thought it was going to be. I followed every step on her Craftsy video but my fondant still cracked even when fully dry. Definitely needs improvement.

I loved making the sugar flowers! They look so realistic even more so in red. Please note that the  picture below is before steaming them so the color is not quite as deep.

Silhouette and Peony Cake

I'm pleased with how this cake turned out. Simple and clean. The silhouette on this cake is cut freehand. It did take me a few tries until I finally was able to make one without looking like a witch. It did cross my mind to print the image on edible paper. But in this case however,  I wanted to learn and didn't want to take the easy way out.

I absolutely love making peonies! And what's a cake without a sugar flower right? One oversized closed peony suited this cake perfectly. Although not perfect it gets better each time.

Lingerie Theme Cupcakes

These lingerie themed cupcakes are for a bachelorette party with the colors yellow, silver & white. What a lovely set up for the bride. Love the combination!

The actual figures are made of gumpaste which rests on fondant circles. Allow the fondant to dry overnight otherwise it will be too soft for the icing. Now I made the breasts a little larger and rounder than average. It is a bachelorette party after all. To make the breasts, I simply rolled 2 equally sized round gumpaste ball and attached together with tylose. When dry, cut out 2 circles for the bra and cover them. Put them lower for more cleavage or higher for a more conservative look. For a more R rated version, you can even apply half a nipple peeking out of the bra but do this before you cover the breasts. The bra straps were 2 thin pieces of fondant and I used a ball tool to give it movement.
For the buttocks I used a heart shaped cutter. I simply made an indent on the gumpaste for the "cheeks" and cut the rest freehand to create the waist. The corset was cut freehand as well and rolled two balls under the corset to create cleavage. The design options for these are endless! You can add leopard or zebra prints on the bras, polka dots, stripes, etc. But my personal favorite would have to be the G-string. It's clean and simple but with a big statement :D

Peter Rabbit Cupcakes

A good friend of mine requested Peter Rabbit theme cupcakes to celebrate her precious little boy's 1 month birthday. I've never done a gumpaste rabbit figure before and I'm embarrassed to say that this little cutie took me over an hour to make! Perhaps I should've researched for a tutorial but I feel this takes as much time as making the actual figure itself. So I went ahead just looked at another rabbit figure online and got started.

As inexperienced as I was with gumpaste figures I think Peter came out great. I was a little worried that he looked a little like a kangaroo but my hubby assured me he did not. Haha!

The Peter Rabbit theme cupcakes are red velvet with cream cheese frosting. So cute and so delicious!

Vintage Rose Cake

As you all know I'm obsessed with sugar flowers. And sugar roses have been my biggest obsession but I just can't seem to get it right. I wanted my roses to look as beautiful as Cotton and Crumbs and Leslea Matsis'. You have no idea how much gumpaste I've used practicing the art of making sugar roses. But alas! I think I've come close. Well not quite but let me know what you think.

I've had my piping tips for quite sometime and never used them. This was the first cake I actually piped on. As nervous as I was I think it came out well. The lace trim is from a craft store and I piped the dots on them as well using a No.1 tip. Now back to the roses...

There are many steps to making these as you can imagine. So if you have any questions at all shoot me an email. I'll be glad to help.

I could make these roses all day. So darn beautiful! Until next time...

Baby in a pod cake

I first saw this design from Anne Heap of Pink Cake Box and absolutely loved it. My gumpaste figure needs work but the finished look is still adorable nonetheless.

The leaves and tendrils are attached to a 30 gauge wire to keep it upright and the cascading leaves are made of gumpaste. To make the leaves I used a silicone veiner & I applied different shades of green luster dust to random parts of the leaves to make it look more realistic after it has dried. To complete the look I used confectioners glaze but you can steam it as well if you don't have the glaze on hand. Here is a close up.

If you have any questions as to how I made this cake don't hesitate to send me an email. I'll be glad to help. Happy caking everyone!

Open peony, hydrangeas, filler flowers & buds on chocolate cake

I truly love creating life like sugar flowers. I get lost in creating them and it's very therapeutic. This beautiful cake took a week to be finished. It is inspired by my favorite sugar artist Jacqueline Butler of Petalsweet. She is amazing! Her beautiful work continue to inspire me everyday.

The sugar flowers took 3 days to make. I created my own gumpaste using Nicholas Lodge's recipe which needed to set, the petals and leaves needed to dry overnight and finally dust/color them individually. I then organize them in groups as shown in the picture to make arranging easier.

Here is a picture of the open peony after assembling the petals.

One of the tips I received from Jacqueline when arranging the flowers is to fill the unsightly gaps with filler flowers and buds. This creates a more tight beautiful arrangement. Unfortunately, I used all of my  filler flowers and buds. So always make a lot more than you think!

This is the most beautiful cake I've created! It's not as neat as I'd like it to be of course. It's my first time arranging sugar flowers on a cake so please excuse the marks on the fondant. But I'm so pleased with the overall look. I honestly couldn't stop admiring my cake!

If you have any questions with how I made these sugar flowers please let me know. I'm far from an expert but I'll try my best to help and answer your questions. Thank you and have a great time making sugar flowers!
